I'm contemplating taking a job up there, with a different branch of the military. Same benefits and a 15% pay raise, and potential for upward mobility (I'm maxed out in my current job).

Seems like a damn long haul for groceries and such. Shop in Bishop, or Carson City?  But it also seems a damn sight better than Riverside.

What should I know? (Besides the fact that gasoline prices are outrageous).

winter time travel -

pretty remote though close to a lot Sierra entries

haul to get down to Bishop, passes closed in the winter, access west through Tahoe

gas prices seemed rather high

don't know where you get your groceries, but people live there

Gateway to Hawthorne!

Actually, some new crag potential in interior  Nevada. Partners could be sparse though....

Ron Anderson and Rick Sumner are probably available...

Will doesn't look at all like the Pillsbury Doughboy, so he's probably safe...

I have a handful of friends there, and they have a blast. Tons of great skiing in the winter months, but there's plenty of climbing in striking distance if that's not your bag.

I actually was getting a little doughboy-esque there for a month or so. Prime target material for them Knee Vah Duh rednecks.

Lots of stress eating at work, stacked on 10lb in a hurry.Got 9 back off, and quit caffeine again just this past weekend (man did that suck), shoulder is mostly back to full strength about a year after tearing it up in Vedauwoo. The kids have the National Championships this coming weekend, so their training cycle is over (we got three into Nationals, and two of them have a legit shot at winning the thing). Which all means my personal training is about to ramp up in a big way.

Offer didn't come through on this one in Bridgeport, but thanks for the input, all.  Feels odd, I've been turning down job offers left and right for the last 6mo, this is the only one out of about 8 or 9 that didn't result in an offer.

Bummer. Some great climbing just over Sonora Pass from MWTC.  Sawtooths/Hulk literally minutes away.

Yeah, groceries would have been a haul.
