I read in the forums about addressing the problem of the tie-in knot getting in the way by tying it into the outside side of your harness.

I was wondering about just extending the knot out by having a figure-eight on a bite clipped into a locker 'biner at the end of a Personal Anchor System (PAS) tether. The PAS tether's profile is very slender & the length can easily be adjusted for however far out you want the knot to dangle.

Good idea? Bad idea? Why?

Not a big fan of the POS... but... it should work as described.  When I need a slim profile I either tie the fig 8 knot with a really long eye so the knot itself will be well clear of my work area, or girth hitch a sling around my swami as an extender.

Oh, and if the crack is that tight, I would be wearing a swami, not a harness.

Ps:  good first post and welcome aboard!

Jaybro, show me a bowline on a coil next trip. I seriously haven't tied one since I was like 14 when we forgot the 1" tube at IC one year.

Thanks! I've caught the WIDE bug, so hopefully I'll have more questions to ask or things to post later. Cheers.

Jaybro, show me a bowline on a coil next trip. I seriously haven't tied one since I was like 14 when we forgot the 1" tube at IC one year.

Here's what the back side of one looks like:

We were having a minimalist kind of day.

...........Named this route Adam's Crack...... ba da bump! Grin

..... Named the area "The Bare Buttress".....ba da bump!  Roll Eyes

The route to the left later was done and named "The Left Cheek" (seriously) and of course, the route to the right....."The Right Cheek". The Right Cheek was almost done free solo naked (10b) while snow still lay on the ground, but in the end was done barefoot to try and pare down the modern accoutrements  ......I was thinking that one needed to be named "Children of the Vulgarians".

This was all Dean Fidelmans fault and I lay the blame at his feet. The conversation at the cliff between routes was about Deans amazingly awesome calender "Stone Nudes". A calender full of beautiful artistic shots of naked climbing women. One dude suggested that the reason there were no dudes pictured is because dudes were just chicken to climb naked. The there was the "No they are not" "Yes they are" riff back and forth which turned into an argument that went for some time: and then all this came out of that. 3 new routes, all done naked or as close to it as you want to get. The bowline on the coil tie-in was an attempt to ditch the harness.

Hope that was some assistance.
